The dense cedar and Douglas fir forest, along with the clients’ privacy, were central considerations in the design, leading to a minimal-impact approach.

The home’s layout emphasizes gathering, with a spacious living, dining, and kitchen area oriented southwest toward the lake. A perpendicular bedroom and service wing provides more private spaces, each offering distinct views and experiences of the site. Thoughtfully placed windows frame key perspectives valued by the clients.

Approached via a forested drive, the house remains largely concealed until a small clearing reveals the wing-like roof of the carport. Clad in cedar with a dark metal roof, the structure blends into the dappled light and shadow of the forest, making it nearly imperceptible from the lake.

Nestled into the hillside in an L-shape, the house is sheltered from winter winds, creating a protected courtyard with the existing cottage. The north side remains mostly enclosed for privacy and insulation, while selective openings capture framed views. The detached carport marks the entry, linked to the house by a floating breezeway, offering a dry passage on rainy days.
